Artist: Susanna Garrod
Susannah Garrod is a British artist and illustrator of fashion, beauty and life. Her studies in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and History of Art at Edinburgh continue to play a part in the way that the past informs her style, in particular her love of the mid-century ‘Golden Age of Illustration’. She is currently working with The Berkeley Hotel, for whom she created the visual identity for Prêt-a-Portea, their famed fashion afternoon tea. Other recent clients include; British Vogue, Jimmy Choo, Emilia Wickstead, Jessica McCormack and Patek Philippe.
About the work…
‘My father, David Bedale, is an antiques dealer, so that old school English aesthetic is an influence. However working mainly with clients from the luxury sector, I try to create artwork that sits comfortably in both these spheres. I’d like to think my work looks as at home on the cluttered wall of an eccentric sitting room, as it does in a Mayfair store, or minimalist loft space.
An informal line and use of colour is what probably stands out most in my work – perhaps a reason I love fashion illustrators of the past such as Marcel Vertès and Christian Berard – who like myself were not constrained by subject matter. It’s fun to be able to draw flowers, animals and interiors alongside Couture fashion and is what makes my job so exciting!’

Susanna’s drawings look lovely hung individually, but would make a showstopping gallery wall printed on A4 and grouped together like this or perhaps this. You could also try printing them on larger A3 paper and experimenting with hanging them as a tryptic. For more picture hanging inspiration take a look at our piece on 100 ways to hang art.
