RMIT show Situation seeks a place for interior design

Art and Design

A new exhibition and symposium at the RMIT Design Hub will attempt to position the practice of interior design in a broader social, cultural, historical and perhaps even philosophical context.

Titled Situation, the exhibition and wider program features a host of designers, educators and artists, including Edinburgh architect Edward Hollis and leading Melbourne artist Bianca Hester.

The keynote speaker will be Omar Sosa, the Spanish designer and art director behind Apartamento magazine, whose practice frames interior design not as a repository for product but as a site for fleeting spatial compositions and experiences.

The exhibition shows from July 23 to August 3 at the RMIT Design Hub. Sosa’s keynote lecture is at 6pm on Thursday, July 31.
